Bruny Island Ferry
The Bruny Island ferry from Kettering to Roberts Point: the crossing, fares for cars and foot passengers, booking, the queues, and the tours that include it.
The Bruny Island ferry is the car ferry from Kettering, 33 km by road south of Hobart, to Roberts Point on North Bruny. The crossing of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel takes 20 minutes, a visitor car costs A$58.60 return until 30 November 2026 and A$67.30 from 1 December to April, and foot passengers travel free (Island Connections Bruny Island, the operator formerly branded SeaLink, November 2026). Every day tour from Hobart includes the crossing; the walking day is Tassie Tours Tasmania’s From Hobart: Full-Day Bruny Island Tour with Guide, from US$127 a person (checked November 2026), with hotel pickup and the national parks pass as well.
The calendar above is Tassie Tours Tasmania’s day from Hobart, ferry included, with 957 reviews (checked November 2026).
The short answer
Turn up and queue. The ferry runs 365 days a year, about every 20 minutes through the day, and you can buy the ticket online beforehand or at the booth in Kettering; a ticket does not reserve a sailing, it is for the next ferry with room. The car fare is return and covers the driver and every passenger, so a carful pays once, and walking on is free. The Parks and Wildlife Service advises plenty of extra time at peak periods such as Easter.
Where the ferry goes

The ferry leaves from the Kettering terminal at 79 Ferry Road, 33 km by road south of Hobart, about 35 minutes by car, and lands at Roberts Point on North Bruny. From Roberts Point the road runs south through Great Bay, past the oyster, cheese and honey producers, to The Neck and South Bruny. The service runs as Island Connections Bruny Island, part of Journey Beyond; the old sealink.com.au address forwards to it, and tour listings still call it SeaLink.

Island Connections Bruny Island fares, November 2026. Saver fares are cheaper fares sold at the ticket booth at set Saver travel times; the December-to-April peak price applies to the regular visitor fare only. A temporary A$3.50 fuel levy applied to bookings in October 2026, and the notice was still on the fares page on 3 November, so check it before you pay.
Times and booking
On the summer timetable, in force from 28 September 2026, the first weekday ferry leaves Kettering at 6:10 am and the last at 7:00 pm; from Roberts Point the first is at 6:30 am and the last at 7:15 pm. Through the day sailings are about every 20 minutes, with a few 40-minute gaps around midday and in the evening. At weekends the first sailings are a little later, and the last leave Kettering at 6:40 pm and Roberts Point at 7:00 pm. The ferry works on a queue: you cannot book a specific sailing, and a ticket bought online, valid for 365 days, is for the next ferry with room. Pennicott, whose cruises depend on the crossing, suggests reaching the terminal 30 minutes before the sailing you want.
Disruptions
The operator’s status page said its services were running as scheduled on 3 November 2026. The last disruption found was in March 2026, when the ferry MV Bowen broke down and a single vessel shuttled across for three days before the normal timetable resumed. Check the status page on the day you travel.
The tours that include the ferry
Every day tour from Hobart includes the crossing both ways, so there is no fare to buy and no booking to make: the operator’s vehicle crosses on the same ferry, and the timing is the operator’s job.

On foot, by bus and by bike
Metro Tasmania’s Channel buses, routes 415, 416 and 417, run from Hobart via Kettering, so it is possible to reach the ferry without a car. Tourism Australia’s guide to the island notes that there is no public transport on Bruny itself, so a foot passenger needs a bike, a lift or a tour on the far side. Walking on is free and a bicycle is A$8.10 return. Pennicott’s cruise-and-bus option meets at 8:30 am at Oyster Cove Marina in Kettering and takes its passengers across.
