Bruny Island Food
Bruny Island's food stops: Get Shucked oysters, Bruny Island Cheese Co., the honey and chocolate shops, and which day tours from Hobart stop at each.
Bruny Island’s food is sold where it is made: oysters at Get Shucked, cheese and beer at Bruny Island Cheese Co., and honey and chocolate at their own shops, spread along the island’s main road. The day from Hobart that pays for the tastings is Pennicott Wilderness Journeys’ Hobart: Bruny Island Gourmet Sightseeing Day Tour, from US$204 a person (checked November 2026), with the ferry, the tastings and a beachside lunch with oysters and two drinks included.
The calendar above is Pennicott’s gourmet day from Hobart, with 584 reviews (checked November 2026).
The short answer
Every day tour from Hobart passes the food producers, but only some pay for what you eat. Pennicott’s gourmet day and Bruny Island Safaris’ all-inclusive day put the tastings and lunch in the price; Tassie Tours Tasmania’s walking day and the lighter lighthouse days stop at the producers and leave the buying to you. If the food is the reason for the trip, take one of the first two. If you would rather walk in the morning and choose your own oysters in the afternoon, the cheaper days do that.
The producers, and where they are

- Get Shucked, 1735 Bruny Island Main Road, Great Bay: an oyster farm with a bar, open 9:30 am to 4:30 pm daily (the kitchen closes at 3:45 pm), walk-ins welcome, closed Christmas Day.
- Bruny Island Cheese Co., 1807 Bruny Island Main Road, Great Bay: a cellar door with free tastings of its cheese and beer, open 10 am to 4 pm, 7 days.
- Bruny Island Honey, 2184 Main Road, Great Bay: free tastings, 9 am to 5 pm, 364 days a year (closed Christmas Day).
- Bruny Island House of Whisky, 360 Lennon Road, North Bruny, near the ferry: 9 am to 5 pm, 7 days, with hours that vary through the seasons.
Addresses and hours from each business’s own site, November 2026. Bruny Island Chocolate Co. is a stop on several of the day tours below. By road from the ferry at Roberts Point, Get Shucked and the cheese company are 15 km, the honey shop 19 km, Bruny Island Chocolate Co. 30 km, on South Bruny, and Hotel Bruny, where several tours stop for lunch, 37 km.

Pennicott’s gourmet day, stop by stop
The day leaves Hobart, crosses on the ferry from Kettering and works its way south. The tastings are with the producers themselves: cheese and handcrafted ale at Bruny Island Cheese and Beer Co., oysters, wine, mead, fudge and local honey. Lunch is at Pennicott’s beachside restaurant above Adventure Bay, with shucked oysters and two glasses of wine, beer or cider. Between the food there is a walk through the 50 acres of private English and native gardens at HIBA, where the fudge is tasted, entry to the Bligh Museum, Mavista rainforest, and the view from the Truganini Steps at The Neck. It takes about 9 hours 30 minutes, and it meets at Pennicott’s office on Franklin Wharf in Hobart, with pickup from select CBD hotels by arrangement.

Driving the food trail yourself
The four producers above are all on North Bruny, on or just off the main road between the ferry and The Neck, so a self-drive day can take them in on the way south or on the way back. Their doors close between 4 pm and 5 pm, which favours a morning ferry. The car fare on the ferry is A$58.60 return until 30 November 2026 and A$67.30 from 1 December, with everyone in the car included (Island Connections Bruny Island, November 2026); the ferry page has the timetable.
